St. John backup-power proposal awaits further approvals

WAPA’s plan calls for four diesel generators totaling 10 megawatts at Coral Bay and Frank Bay, with 80,000 gallons of bulk fuel storage. At the October 29 coastal review hearing, commissioners questioned engineering detail, permits and transport arrangements. Equipment has arrived, but installation still depends on approvals and site preparation. WAPA’s first-quarter 2027 startup target is conditional, not a confirmed service date.

JFL responds to equipment judgment, seeks proposed bond funding

JFL says it has paid about $2.9 million under a medical-equipment financing agreement now subject to a $6.36 million federal default judgment. The Source reports that the September ruling also ordered equipment returned; the hospital’s October 28 response did not explain how it is addressing that requirement. JFL attributes payment disruption to financial pressures and a cyberattack and seeks funding under a bond proposal that still requires legislative approval. No enforcement delay or debt settlement is confirmed.
